There are three general things I want you to know about this:
1. The character is Lorelei, a sort of German siren (see Wikipedia article for more information).
2. Yes, she's wearing a modern coat. I painted this on purpose.
3. I submitted this in the "Original Characters" category because it's neither animal, nor anthro, nor Sword&Sorcery character, it's a part of myth.))

I'd also like to explain the blood and the fact #2 in few words; after I had read Heine's poem on the theme, I thought not of just a seductive ghost lady. I believe, my Lorelei used to be human once, but maybe she got drowned by accident, or murdered, or commited suicide... the fact is that to my mind she should be an inhuman creature.

I tried my best to portray somebody, who had completely forgotten, how to be human... somebody, who's still a little confused by loneliness and doesn't actually know, how to behave. The creature I tried to portray doesn't make ships sink on purpose, but she does feed on marines (so the blood presence is logically approved). The coat on her shoulders is not just the anachronysm; she feels cold all the time - so she tries to warm herself with clothes of those, whom she found at her rocks after another shipwreck...

Ugh, too many words... and I guess I still haven't told you a tiny part of my ideas on the theme.)))

Anyway, hope you like this work in spite of its being rather angsty.)))
If interested... there's also a small closeup of her face: [link]

Extinction is more than the end of something with a long run in the past. Extinction is murdering everything that would have evolved from that species in the future.

Pretty good, I like doing my take at myths too and understand how somethings the popular interpretation doesnt seem quite right when you're trying to paint your own :)

Oh, hell yes... there's so much hidden sense underneath any myth, as well!
